To all Portal visitors / forum members,
Apologies for the lack of news on the site and for my recent absence from the forum - unforgivable in hindsight. I stood back for a short while as real life work was (is) quite manic but also because I needed a break from Blitzkrieg. I was hoping the break would rekindle my interest in the game but I'm afraid to say that it hasn't - the enthusiasm needle is firmly stuck on zero. I think it was Panzerkrieg that, for me, marked the end of an era. I had hoped it would bring something new to what has been a tremendous series, but that just wasn't the case. After five years there is nothing left for me now. I've also had more than enough of clearing up after SQL injection attacks. I've just not got the time, patience or energy any more. So, this means (as some of you may have guessed) that it is time to shut the Portal. True, I could leave it running but I always find that there is something rather sad about stumbling sites that haven't been updated for months or years. A clean shutdown will draw a line in the sand and mark the end of what I might humbly call an era. The forum will remain open for the foreseeable future. I will lurk around administering it but you might want to nominate a proper moderator to oversee things. I will post links to all downloads (maps etc.) in the forum very soon. They will remain operational at least until early 2009 (when the current hosting plan expires). I'm sure you will find a way to continue supporting the series. I am more than willing to send the 8GB+ worth of files to anybody who wants to set up shop elsewhere. I have met some truly great people over the years and it has been a pleasure being of some service to you. I’m only sorry to have to let you down like this. I can assure you that this was not an easy decision to reach.
All the best for Christmas, 2009 and beyond.
Lee
