Motherland Calls
Soviet campaign

Image

Owing to your acknowledgement of Achtung Panzer campaign, I decided to make a sequel for you -   the custom Soviet campaign, called "Motherland Calls".

Despite the main works on this campaign will begin in June 2007 (with approximate release date in the end of August 2007), the initial steps are carried out right now.

This time, I will need help from you. As in Achtung Panzer, there is planned about 30+ missions for this campaign as well. Because it's another very large project and amount of my free time is rather limited, I would be grateful, if anyone of you is willing to assist me.

Basically, what I need, are maps, which will be then used as a basis for the missions. Everyone, who is able and wants to make one or more clear maps (ergo without units) for this campaign, is welcome. Knowledge of scripting is not required - just mapping skills are needed. Hope that some of you will help me in this, because without the necessary maps, the campaign will never be realized.  I will post the small drafts for each required map later on.

Of course, if you have any idea of which mission should be included in the campaign, please post it here - every inspiration is appreciated.

If you reached up to this end of the aforesaid text and if you want to help me with this project somehow, please let me know (simply write it below). :feedback:

The first bit of good news for the week.
I'm willing to contribute, and I'm sure there will be others more than happy to lend a hand.

Can I presume you will be going from Barbarossa to Berlin, with chapters for each major theatre in between? Some coverage of the Continuation War with Finland would be welcome.

I've made this post "sticky" given the eminent status of your last campaign.

Wow, sticky?!  That's a large honor for me. :king:

I hope there will be enough gamers willing to help, because without them I will never be able to finish this project...

Actually, I'm only constructing the idea so far of how the concept of chapters will look like, so that's why I'm asking for inspiration. 8-[

BTW: The continuation of war with Finland is really interresting. Maybe, if there are enough mappers I could make the campaign divided into 2 or 3 fronts (Southern and Leningrad regions). :-k  But only a though now...

a wish comes true... I always preferred playing the soviets, don't know why.
I myself am not a mapper, but if you want, I will ask in the german community, if anyone likes to contribute.

Good idea about the news - nothing like a bit of advertising to drum up support.
Not got any text yet - I'll let you be poetical and come up with something :)

I forgot about one thing:

I would be grateful if anyone will be able and willing to translate the campaign into German and French.

It will be published in English and I can also create a Czech language pack...

I'm sure our full time French translator AlbertMarcel will be doing the honours for the "Version française". I hope you find a volunteer for a German version.

This would be nice but it has also some problems you should be aware of - specially from the point of gameplay:
During 1941 Finns had only one Armoured Battalion which consistest of (obsolent) Vickers companies and couple of captured T-28´s and a single T-34. So there was no Clash of Armour like in other fronts. These tanks were used mainly for supporting the infantry formations attack via the coast road north of the lake Ladoga to river Svir and then to northern edge of lake Onega. In the end of 1941 Armoured Battalion was withdrawn for repairs and reorganization. After this the War of Trenches started for next 2,5 years. During the lull the Armoured Battalion was reinforced first to strenght of Armoured Brigade and later as an Armoured Division (a Tank Brigade, StuG III Battalion and Jaeger (elite infantry) Brigade. The Armoured Division saw action again in June 1944 when Soviets launched their major attack. This is perhaps the only phase of Continuation War which could be persentented well with BK. Besides of the minor stake of Armoured Battalion the war was mainly fought in the wilderness by infantry and artillery units - not very interesting to do with BK engine and specially vanilla ranges... Even in 1944 most of the Soviet tanks were knocked out by panzerschreks and artillery. The main battles where Finnish armoured units were used were Kuuterselkä, Vuosalmi and Tali-Ihantala.
And finally: in battles where Finnish tanks were used Soviets couldn´t manage to achieve any major breakthroughs.

Thanks for info. :D  Actually, it's still in a phase of consideration and nothing about chapters' structure is for sure now.

GordonCz, what would You say about Russian invasion on Poland 1939 ? :)
I started some time ago a Grodno map(based on orginal maps of the town ;)) I can finish it and put a Soviets as a player's side :)
Russian armoured group against few polish AT guns, AA guns and light resistance, surprisingly heavy losses for Russians (advance without infantry support), so the map could be used :)
As it's a lot of time till the release, I would have a time to finish the map ;)

Great idea! :D  It can be included as one of the first missions, if you send the map clear out of all units. Maybe, I would need few units from Fall Weiss mod later if this idea is finally realized...

The Soviets only lost 1 man for every 3 or so Polish soldiers killed (ignoring 200,000 odd captured). Soviet losses weren't very heavy, so shouldn't really be made to be in the game.

Official Russian losses, wounded, killed- 1200.
Unofficial- 10 000 -20 000

Russians lost also 471 tanks, while Poles didn't had too much armoured units in the east. To be honest- maybe few tankettes ?:) Maybe there were some clashes between armour in south Poland.

But if Poles lost almost all of them in fight with Germans ?:)
And one thing- Russian battle losses were maximum 50 tanks :)

Also, YOu are comparing total polish losses (200 000, wounded, killed, captured) made mostly by Germans :)

Here is something You can read:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Szack

;)
Poles, even if were attacking side, had smaller losses ;)
So, there were some harder battles, not bit, but we shouldn't forget about this event ;)

Official losses were 737 dead, but even unofficial losses are unlikely to be more than 1500 dead. Poles took around 5000 fatalities and over 200,000 captured, and lost their country. Not a great success by any means,

Nope ;)
Especially if all units were retreating south with orders to fight with Russians only if they will attack them ;)
So, souch "heavy" polish losses should be a reason also for this map- You know, a lot of riding and massacring enemy soldiers ;)

This excites the hell out of me, I too like to play as USSR in preference!
Unfortunately I don't seem to have any skills to offer, I speak only English and the odd bit of Maori. I am far from learning how to make maps but fully intend to, blah blah.. All I can offer friend is my encouragement, GO FOR IT BRO' !!! I'll look forward to seeing it whenever that may be, peace j

hi, GordonCZ!

i have view that you search idea!

to idea 1:
why do you not make multiple battle over leningrad?

so i can finish in priority new units!
so as BT7 A model! (bt7 tank with armement 76.2mm kt28 tank gun and 7.62 mg)

rata I16,chaika I153 and chato I15, recon, fighter and fighter bomber is to almost finish!
"BF110 C" all 3 versions, is finish by moding! (need just to finish skin) (but has a skin from a unit, and this whas not in nord (1 luftflotte))

so i will just create one or two new soviet low level bomber!

so by german, i need just to modify a bit on pz III, and IV so that have short barrel gun, and not with long barrel!

but search with google over (operation "Silberfuchs" (silver fox))

here look!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Silberfuchs (is in english)

so you read it, that have sub operation "renntier" "platinfuchs" and "polarfuchs"!

but this all if this idea going to you'r destiny!!!
:D
